Chiang Khong, Thailand

Still deep in therapy from the overnight Greyhound buses around California earlier this year, I was not particularly looking forward to the 13h night bus from Bangkok to Northernest Northern Thailand. It doesn’t start well as I board at Morchit bus terminal to have a bus lady grab my ticket and some big drama unfolds. The problem (from what I can gather) doesn’t seem too bad, they all seem more amused and keep smiling at me.

‘Monk’ some smiling driver guy says. ‘Yes Monk’ I agree, thinking he is making small talk with me? Then the penny drops. My seat is next to a fully orananged robed Thai monk, prevented from looking at, speaking to, or coming into contact with women. For the record I am wearing quite a covered up sundress\leggings, although from the look on their faces you would have thought a Playboy bunny had just rocked up. Anyway, they boot the Monk out of our joint seat to the back of the bus where he is presumably safe from me, and I land the best seats in the house (top deck, right at the front, extra leg room, yes.) It gets better from there on in with pillows, sweets, banana muffins, chinese apricot juice, hot towels – it’s better than an Emirates flight, almost. I have one of the best night’s sleep I have had.

Connecting to %s : The Anantasin is the name of a shipwreck just of the coast of the Sensi Parasise, Mae Haad Bay, Koh Tao, Thailand. It’s one of my many favorite places.

Lit.tle: Just because it’s cute.
