Iloilo, Panay, The Philippines

Funny to pronounce (E-low E-low) but a lot less funny to spend time here.

Nikita (off of Boracay) and I came here on Tuesday on the basis of a women’s ferry timetable in Boracay. It said the ferry we wanted left at 7am Weds. I should know this by now but NEVER trust a timetable without taking 10 seconds to Google it first. Even if it is laminated. Turns out the once a week ferry to Palawan is in fact at 7pm on Thursdays. Fail.

So we have 48h to kill in one of the dullest cities ever! Wiki travel lists a few nice churches (we’re not in the mood) and then actually stoops so low as to list jeepney rides as a ‘thing to do.’ Would you ride a bus around your own local city just for kicks? Of course not.

It seems to be a city full of only shopping malls and traffic. I try asking ‘is there a nice park nearby?’ Zero results found.  We settle for a couple of days planning our next countries/lives and then resort to the go-to activity anywhere in the world; Cineworld. We watch the ever so cheesy The Dark Hour, staring some guy who looked like Darren off Hollyoaks, and some girl who looked like Patent of One Tree Hill. For £2 it was worth it though just for the air con.

We even consider hanging at the docks a day early seeing if they would let us play on the ferry. Bad times indeed considering it itself is a lengthy 37 hour-er. Bon voyage. : The Anantasin is the name of a shipwreck just of the coast of the Sensi Parasise, Mae Haad Bay, Koh Tao, Thailand. It’s one of my many favorite places.

Lit.tle: Just because it’s cute.
