Sabang, Palawan, The Philippines

Yes, another Sabang. It seems there is a ‘Sabang’ and a ‘Roxas’ on each main Philippines island. Confusing. Low and behold this one is a pleasant surprise.

We come here mainly for the famous Subterranean River. Which wouldn’t you know it turns out to be the least interest thing about here. It’s a giant bat cave, accessible by buying the already mentioned permit, signing our names on 3 different lists, catching a boat, catching another rowing boat, and a not too unpleasant 45 minute wait in a blue lagoon and National Park beach. Our guide, moonlighting as a stand up comedian, points out phallic looking stones, and makes bat jokes for 45 mins whilst paddling us about with a flashlight. Anyway, all said and done, it’s a bit of a snooze.

But to the best bit. A handful of bungalow shacks, interspersed with a couple of posh resorts that we sneak in and chat up security/bar staff to be allowed to use the wifi if we buy beers. Thanks Ray. He’s pleased I’ve name checked him, as I sit here writing this. Plus one of the cutest beaches I’ve seen with miles of shallow waves. It’s all nice and sedate. So of course someone has come along and spiced things up with an 800 meter zipline, spanning the length of the beach! Until now I was previously sad I skipped the slightly overpriced Gibbon Experience ziplines in Thailand/Laos. This one however was more than worth the wait! Here’s is a vid of me screeching, with glimpses of nice scenery.

Connecting to %s : The Anantasin is the name of a shipwreck just of the coast of the Sensi Parasise, Mae Haad Bay, Koh Tao, Thailand. It’s one of my many favorite places.

Lit.tle: Just because it’s cute.
