Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands

Four hours North of Kuala Lumpur, and suddenly you’re in an odd fairytale hill station filled with tea plantations, strawberry farms, butterfly sanctuaries, and Tudor style heritage hotels. It’s strangely reminiscent of Aviemore Scotland, with cool weather and light-trekking routes. Just don’t come expecting untouched-wilderness, there’s still snarling traffic and a Starbucks!

Getting There: At least four express buses a day run from KL’s Puduraya Central bus station, $35 – 40RM, journey time 4 hours.

Where to Stay: Father’s Guesthouse have immaculate dorm rooms for $20RM.
